Excellent descriptions of recommended bamboo specie, planting of bamboos, and also includes various treatment methods for preservation, both chemical and non-chemical, traditional methods. Great photos and diagrams.

Dr. Rao is a very nice man, I met him in Bali at the Intl. Bamboo Congress 1995, but is probably busy. Try writing him about your bamboo research needs, and he will propably send you a list of references to purchase. (should be affordable). Offer to pay for copy...INBAR is pure research & needs support.

  OK! Now go out and promote and use bamboo. Finally, I must remind bamboo researchers that I am a journalist, not an expert in eradication or propagation (basically-just water it) so please don't send me requests for detailed botanical information or where to find or cook the latest bamboo shoots, how to build with it, where to find bamboo items, etc. PS - especially do not send me email asking for eradication tips.
