Kauai Orchid and Art Festival Art Competition and Show - begins: April 4 & 2008

Theme: Wild About Orchids

Entries Due: Tuesday, April 1, 4 pm. Entries must be hand delivered to Island Art Gallery, 3878 Hanapepe Road, Hanapepe, Kauai. Open 11 to 5pm M-F. Contact: 335-0591, Angela Headley. No late entries.

Entry Fee: Artists may enter up to 2 entries, $10 per entry. An entry is a work comprising one or more elements usually within one title and/or one price for the whole work. All artists 18 years or older are eligible.

Criteria: All 2-dimensional media, including photography, are eligible with the theme of orchids. Art must be original and independently created by the artist. No student work created in a classroom or under an instructor’s direction allowed. With the exception of photographs, copies or reproductions or works originally created in a different medium are not allowed. Judging criteria will be defined by participating judges.

Size Limit: 2-D pieces; image size no smaller than 8”x10”; maximum framed size is 36” in any direction.

Display criteria: All art must be complete, dry, and ready for display. No wet paintings. Wall art must have strong hanging wire securely attached, and wire or screw eyes should not exceed the piece or be visible from the front. Avoid dirty mats or glass, unframed canvas with staples showing, poorly constructed framing, or temporary methods of display such as shrink wrapping. HEA reserves the right to not accept any work considered inappropriate or unsafe for display.

Sales & Commission:

Timespace Gallery, 4545 Kona Road, Hanapepe, is offering the space for this art competition & public showing Friday 11 am to 9 pm and Saturday 11 am to 4 pm. For works offered for sale by the artist, 10% of sale price will be donated to the nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, Hanapepe Economic Alliance and 20% will be commission to Timespace Gallery. Artists pick up unsold paintings after awards ceremony. Call Antonio:335-0094 or Angela 335-0591.

Publicity: Artists agree that HEA may use photographs of works from the show in publicity. Artists retain copyright of their own works. Artists agree to attend the awards ceremony 4/5/08 4 pm and allow photographs.

Acceptance of Responsibility: I understand I am responsible for the hand-delivery of my work to Island Art Gallery or Timespace Gallery by 4pm Tuesday. April 1, 2008. All works submitted at owner’s risk. HEA and gallery staff are not responsible for loss or damage to works. As an exhibitor, I have read the above and hereby release the HEA, galleries, and sponsors from liability in case of loss or damage to my works.
